Adam De La Rosa’s Running Journey
Name: Adam De La Rosa
Age: 38
Hometown: Leming, Texas
Occupation: CDL Truck Driver for Jordan Foster Construction
Time Running: 2 years
Reason for Running: Initially, running was a means to lose weight, but after participating in a 5K, it transformed into a passion.
Adam, who was an amateur boxer until age 17, neglected his health for nearly two decades, indulging excessively in unhealthy eating and leading a sedentary lifestyle while working as a truck driver. His diet deteriorated due to the convenience of fast food and a lack of physical activity, which led to significant weight gain after turning 30.
His turning point came on January 1, 2022, when he recognized that his lifestyle was negatively impacting his ability to engage with his family, especially his 8-year-old daughter. Adam realized he had to set a positive example and committed to losing 50 pounds in three months.
Starting with walking, he lost 25 pounds in January 2022. By February, he incorporated running into his routine, and by March, he had joined a gym. Despite early struggles, such as cramping during running, he progressed to running a non-stop mile by April and achieved his weight loss goal within the planned timeframe.
After reaching his initial goal, he maintained a regular running schedule and participated in a local 5K, which ignited his enthusiasm for races. Inspired by conversations at the event, he embarked on training for the San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, ultimately completing it in December 2022 with a personal best time.
Continuing his running journey, Adam ran the Shiprock Marathon in New Mexico and improved his time in the subsequent San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. His future goals include competing in the Utah Valley Marathon in June 2024 and qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
