Tragic Incident in Fujian Province
A disturbing case has emerged from Fujian province in southern China, where a father intentionally caused a road accident involving his 7-year-old son to claim insurance money.
The Scheme Uncovered
This event unfolded in 2020 in the city of Sanming, and details have only recently surfaced. Reports indicate that Zhang, frequently at odds with his wife over financial matters and suspected infidelity, devised a plan to kill his son in order to collect insurance funds.
Collaboration in the Crime
Zhang enlisted the help of his uncle, who worked as a truck driver, for this sinister plot. Having already secured two truck insurance policies, Zhang orchestrated the situation. In October 2020, he instructed his son to exit their vehicle, and the truck driver deliberately struck the child, leading to the boy’s immediate death.
Deception Post-Accident
Upon the arrival of the police, Zhang feigned grief and claimed the incident was an accident. Meanwhile, the uncle pretended to be distracted by his phone and concealed their familial connection.
Claim Attempt and Investigation
A few months later, Zhang attempted to file an insurance claim amounting to 180,000 yuan (around $25,000), agreeing to pay his uncle 30,000 yuan as part of the scheme. However, the plan unraveled when it came to light that the uncle had falsified his driving credentials, making him an unauthorized driver. As a result, the insurance company rejected the claim and held Luo, the truck’s owner, financially liable.
Arrest and Sentencing
Luo, suspecting foul play, contacted the authorities, revealing that another associate was aware of Zhang’s plan but had not participated. Consequently, both Zhang and his uncle were arrested during the investigation and later sentenced to death by the court.
