A truck driver from Texas was sentenced to life in prison this week for the 2018 murders of his wife and her boyfriend, which he committed after catching them through a spy camera he had installed.
Jordy Husein Suljanovic, 46, received a life sentence without the possibility of parole for killing his 41-year-old wife, Adriana Perez, and her boyfriend, 33-year-old Omar Santamaria-Ruiz. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office confirmed his conviction on capital murder charges after an eight-day trial.
On October 2, 2018, Suljanovic shot Perez and Santamaria-Ruiz when he saw them in a compromising situation via a hidden camera he had set up at their Houston residence. He learned of the incident while working away from home, and upon returning, he fatally shot them in the master bedroom’s closet.
Prosecutors stated, “Upon discovering his wife and her lover at the house, he returned and killed both of them, disturbing their children with gunfire in the middle of the night.”
After the shootings, Suljanovic enlisted his son, Jordy Suljanovic Jr., to help dispose of the bodies. They drove to Louisiana, where the remains of the victims were dumped; Santamaria-Ruiz’s body was found in a wooded area near Natchitoches, while Perez’s was discarded by the Atchafalaya River near Baton Rouge.
In 2022, Suljanovic Jr. pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence for his part in the murders and was sentenced to five years in prison. Following the incident, Suljanovic attempted to flee with his family to Mexico City and later to Bosnia before being arrested in London and extradited back to Texas.
Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “This man killed two people, including the mother of his children, and attempted to evade justice.” Prosecutors also noted Suljanovic’s extensive history of domestic violence against Perez prior to her murder.
