Partnership for Electric Bucket Truck
Terex Utilities has teamed up with Mack Trucks to develop an electric bucket truck. Terex has equipped the Mack MD7 Electric chassis with its Optima HR55 aerial device, which is powered by the HyPower SmartPTO by Viatec.
Enhanced Performance Features
The truck boasts an impressive range, providing up to 1.5 times the range capabilities compared to typical Class 6/7 medium-duty electric bucket trucks. Additionally, it offers double the payload capacity on the rear axle, as highlighted by Terex. The aerial device functions independently from the chassis, alleviating range anxiety and allowing utility teams to use the boom and outriggers throughout a regular workday without draining the chassis’s battery.
The comparison reveals how Mack’s electric systems perform against diesel alternatives.
Advanced Safety Technology
This all-electric vehicle comes equipped with the 3rd Eye digital platform, which integrates sophisticated camera systems and artificial intelligence. Featuring up to six high-definition cameras that can be viewed on a 7-inch monitor located within the cab, the system offers a comprehensive, real-time perspective of the truck’s surroundings, which significantly minimizes blind spots during maneuvers like reversing, changing lanes, or navigating busy areas.
Real-Time Data and Insights
The platform operates wirelessly with cloud connectivity, consistently capturing and archiving valuable operational data and video. This offers fleet managers immediate insights into driver behavior, chassis and body operations, and equipment conditions. Eric Monsen, VP of Sales and Marketing for Environmental Solutions Group, mentioned, “These extensive insights not only enhance safety and reduce liability but also create a detailed record of events and highlight opportunities for coaching safe driving practices.”
Empowering Electric Utilities
George Fotopoulos, VP of E-Mobility at Mack, stated, “Now, electric utilities have an EV truck equipped with the necessary tools for servicing poles and lines, all powered by electricity they generate themselves.” He added, “As we collaborate with body builders to advance the MD Electric for various Class 6 and 7 commercial applications, this partnership showcases Mack’s dedication to providing sustainable solutions tailored to our customers’ specific requirements.”
