Investigation Underway for I-95 Collision
Authorities are investigating a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer and an 18-year-old driver that occurred on Thursday, Jan. 9, just before 6:30 p.m. on Interstate 95.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, 18-year-old Ashton Faircloth from Stafford was operating a 1997 Lexus ES300 southbound on the highway when he attempted to avoid slower traffic. This maneuver caused him to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in a collision with a Kenworth truck driven by 43-year-old Frank Tandoh from Dumfries.
Consequences of the Collision
The crash caused the tractor-trailer to veer off the right side of the road and crash into multiple trees.
Injuries Reported
Faircloth sustained “serious but non-life-threatening” injuries and was transported to Mary Washington Hospital for further treatment and assessment. Meanwhile, Tandoh suffered injuries described as life-threatening and was airlifted to VCU Health for medical care.
Seatbelt Use
Police confirmed that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident.
Legal Consequences
Faircloth has been charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain proper vehicle control. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
