Tragic Shooting in Pontiac Leaves Man Dead

PONTIAC, Mich. (WXYZ) — A man from Pontiac was killed after being shot multiple times while operating a salt truck on Saturday night, as reported by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Incident Details

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, deputies found a pick-up truck with a salt spreader abandoned in the middle of Karen Court, located just south of Hopkins Avenue. They attempted to administer life-saving measures to the driver, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, but he was declared dead at the scene.

Victim Identified

The deceased has been identified as 53-year-old Antonio Jason Craig, a resident of Pontiac. His family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses.

Family’s Tribute

Antonio’s children, Antonio and Ashlee, shared their memories of their father with 7 News Detroit. Ashlee reflected, “He was always there to comfort us, assuring us that it was going to be okay. He taught us to keep moving forward, even during tough times, and was always there to provide kind and uplifting words.”

Suspect Detained

A 26-year-old suspect was apprehended just hours following the shooting in a restaurant parking lot in Waterford Township, located at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Scott Lake Road. The suspect is currently in custody at the Oakland County Jail.

Ongoing Investigation

The case is anticipated to be presented to prosecutors by Tuesday, December 2. Sheriff Michael Bouchard stated in a press release, “Through swift and coordinated efforts, we were able to identify the suspect in this senseless homicide and take him into custody. I look forward to seeing him held fully accountable.”

Community Impact

This tragic event has shaken the Pontiac community, and the family is seeking support during this challenging time as they mourn the loss of Antonio Jason Craig.
