Truck Robber Sandeep Killed in Police Operation
Baghpat: Notorious truck robber Sandeep, originally from Haryana, has been killed in a collaborative operation by the Baghpat district police and the Special Task Force (STF). He sustained critical injuries during an encounter and later succumbed while receiving medical care.
Background on Sandeep
Sandeep was linked to the murders of four truck drivers and was notorious for his truck robberies. The Uttar Pradesh police had announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for any information leading to his capture. A total of 15 criminal cases were filed against him across various police jurisdictions.
Criminal Activities
Authorities report that Sandeep, a resident of Bhaini Maharajganj in Thana Meham, Rohtak district of Haryana, was the primary suspect in a truck robbery case involving nickel plates valued at approximately ₹4 crore in the Panki police station area of Kanpur. In connection with this case, the Kanpur police also offered a ₹1 lakh reward for information on him.
Record of Crimes
Police records indicate that Sandeep was implicated in over 15 cases of murder and truck robbery across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Maharashtra. He was known to operate on highways, often killing drivers before making off with their trucks.
Police Encounter
Acting on a tip-off, police surrounded the Mavi Kalan forest area. According to reports, when Sandeep noticed he was encircled, he began firing at the officers. The police returned fire, injuring him; he was subsequently transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Official Statements
SP Suraj Kumar Rai confirmed the incident, stating that the STF Noida and Baghpat police encountered the truck robber. The individual, known as Sandeep Pehlwan alias Sandeep Lohar, had a ₹1 lakh bounty on his head and was wanted for the theft of nickel plates worth ₹4 crore from Kanpur.
