Man Identified in Moorhead Workplace Accident

MOORHEAD — Authorities have revealed the identity of a man who died following a workplace incident at a business in north Moorhead and have provided further details regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.

In a statement released on Wednesday, December 17, Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting announced that 51-year-old Stacy Martin from Fargo was working on a lift axle for a truck at Bert’s Truck Equipment, located at 3804 Highway 75 N., when a temporary weld failed. As a result, the axle fell onto Martin’s chest and abdomen, according to Empting.

Other employees managed to lift the axle off Martin. Sheriff’s deputies and Sanford Ambulance responded promptly to a report of a “workplace accident involving a male with a traumatic chest injury” at Bert’s Truck Equipment at 9:10 a.m. on Tuesday. Empting noted that they found Martin alert and conscious upon arrival.

He was transported to Sanford Hospital by Sanford Ambulance; however, he lost consciousness during the journey, prompting first responders to initiate life-saving measures, as detailed by Empting.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the emergency room staff continued life-saving efforts, but, unfortunately, they were unsuccessful, and Martin was pronounced dead.

Martin’s remains were subsequently sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office in St. Paul for an autopsy. Sheriff Empting indicated that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
