Investigation Uncovers Multi-County Crime Ring in Butts County
JENKINSBURG, Ga. – Authorities in Butts County have successfully dismantled a crime syndicate accused of stealing and moving heavy construction equipment across the Atlanta metropolitan area.
Investigation Overview
The inquiry began after reports of heavy equipment theft at a construction site in Jenkinsburg. Investigators analyzed numerous hours of surveillance footage, identifying a suspect vehicle—a rental truck from Home Depot. Collaborating with Home Depot’s security team, officers traced the truck back to its renter, identifying several individuals likely involved in the crimes.
Evidence Collection
Additional evidence connected the rental truck to thefts at multiple locations, including the construction site for a new Publix on Highway 42 in Locust Grove.
Arrests Made
Following the execution of a search warrant in Newton County, Eric Cole was arrested, and the rental truck along with a trailer utilized in the thefts was recovered. A separate search warrant in Cobb County led to the discovery of a stolen tractor from Butts County and more evidence linking to the crime ring.

All three face charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, alongside charges of theft by taking, criminal attempt to commit theft, and conspiracy to commit theft.
