Ron Duquette, an Equipment Operator for the Municipality of Lakeshore, has celebrated a significant achievement by winning the Truck Roadeo organized by the local chapter of the Association of Ontario Road Supervisors (AORS). His victory on June 24 marks the first time a staff member from Lakeshore has won this title, earning him the chance to compete at the Provincial-level event in September.
“I am excited to be the first member from Lakeshore to win this local event, and I take great pride in representing our municipality at the Provincial competition,” expressed Duquette.
Each year, AORS local chapters organize Truck Roadeos to promote safety and professionalism in public works driving. The competition evaluates drivers’ safety measures and their driving capabilities using trucks fitted with snowplows and wings. Events include a pre-trip inspection, an obstacle course that reflects real-world challenges, and a written examination.
The top two performers from each local association proceed to the Provincial Safety Truck Roadeo to display the skills of the finest municipal equipment operators in Ontario.
This year, Duquette excelled in the local competition, scoring 352 out of a possible 395 points, securing first place. Shawn Marchand from the Town of Essex came in second, with a score of 347.
The upcoming Provincial competition is set to take place on Wednesday, September 24, hosted by the Lanark County Road Supervisors Association in the Town of Carleton Place.
