Kenworth has announced that it will cease production of three Class 8 truck models—the W900, T800, and C500—by 2026. This move is in response to changing emissions regulations and component limitations as the trucking industry shifts toward more advanced technologies. The company plans to conduct a final order call for these models in late 2025.
Embracing Modern Trucking Technology
“These classic Kenworth models hold significant sentimental value, which makes this decision difficult, but it is essential as we evolve into the next phase of trucking,” stated Kevin Haygood, Kenworth’s assistant general manager of sales and marketing. “As we progress to future offerings, we will maintain the legacy of these legendary trucks through innovation, efficiency, and superior quality that our customers have relied on for many years.”
W900: A Timeless Classic
The W900 model, which debuted in 1963, has a versatile platform that has supported long-haul, heavy-haul, logging, and various other uses. Over time, Kenworth has released four versions of the W900.
C500: Tough and Resilient
Initially launched in 1972, the C500 is a robust vocational truck designed for extreme conditions. It is suitable for heavy-hauling, oilfield tasks, and off-road projects, boasting a gross combination weight rating of up to one million pounds.
T800: Designed for Specialized Work
Launched in 1986, the T800 model was built for heavy-haul and off-road applications, accommodating larger engines with enhanced cooling capabilities. The T800W variant is particularly suited for specialized tasks such as oilfield operations, logging, and other demanding roles.

Kenworth encourages both dealers and customers to place their final orders for these truck models as soon as possible.
