“Ice Road Truckers” star Todd Dewey
It’s understandable if Todd Dewey wishes to erase 2016 from his memory. The past year has been particularly challenging for the beloved star of History Channel’s hit reality series, “Ice Road Truckers.”
Here’s what made it so tough:
The tenth season of “Ice Road Truckers” proved to be the hardest yet for Dewey. The traditionally icy paths across the Canadian wilderness became muddy and soft, with the ice covering the lakes he needed to navigate being alarmingly thin.
Moreover, Dewey faced personal losses, including the death of his close friend and co-star, Darrell Ward, who tragically passed away in a plane crash in August.
Adding to his grief, a cousin, who was both like a brother to him and a partner in the logging industry, died in a car accident while Dewey was in Europe.
In addition to these setbacks, Dewey recently underwent four eye surgeries after sustaining injuries from a job site accident due to a tire explosion from a truck.
In the first part of a three-part series, Dewey shares insights about working alongside his father, his journey into trucking, and his experiences hauling logs in the Pacific Northwest.
The upcoming episodes will explore Dewey’s transition from driving logging trucks to becoming a cast member of one of television’s most favored reality series, along with discussions about fellow drivers and what lies ahead in Season Eleven of “Ice Road Truckers.”
