Exclusive Interview with Lisa Kelly at the Mid-America Trucking Show

During the recent Mid-America Trucking Show, our sister site Overdrive had the opportunity to interview Lisa Kelly, the star of “Ice Road Truckers.”

Jack Roberts, the Executive Editor of Overdrive and also the Trucks Editor for this site, engaged in a conversation with Lisa as she took a Volvo VN670 for a test drive along Interstate 65 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Following the interview, which is available for viewing below, Jack reflected on his experience with Lisa and shared his thoughts in a blog post. One observation particularly stood out:

“There are murmurs that the producers of IRT sought out a female driver and quickly trained Lisa to join the team. However, from my time riding with her, I found that she is an excellent driver, possessing a natural skill for understanding machinery along with a genuine passion for engines and their optimal performance. Her perspective on the increasing popularity of automatic transmissions reinforces this: she remains unconvinced, as she prefers to manually monitor her RPMs and control her gear shifts. It’s clear she values that control for herself, regardless of whether a computer could do it more efficiently.”
