Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois has received a $77,000 grant from the Department of Transportation aimed at training military veterans as truck drivers. This initiative seeks to mitigate workforce shortages in the trucking sector while offering meaningful employment opportunities for veterans.

The trucking sector stands as a key employer in Illinois, accounting for over 338,000 positions, or approximately one in every 15 jobs within the state. This initiative plays a critical role in tackling the labor shortfall while also helping veterans transition into civilian careers.

The grant will finance tuition and other requirements for 17 military veterans enrolled in the trucking program at Lincoln Land Community College. This program equips veterans with the necessary training to obtain their commercial driver’s licenses and join the trucking workforce.
