Truckload Carriers Association Honors Heroic Drivers
The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has recognized four exceptional truck drivers as TCA Highway Angels for their courageous actions on the road. The honored drivers include Phil Damme from Online Transport, Owen Lewis from Sharp Transportation Inc., Marco Medel Morga of AAA Cooper Transportation, and John Bradley from James River Carriers.
To acknowledge their selfless service towards fellow motorists and drivers, each Highway Angel has received a certificate, lapel pin, patches, and truck decals from the TCA, while their employers also received recognition certificates featuring the accomplishments of these drivers.
Since the inception of the Highway Angels program in 1997, nearly 1,400 professional truck drivers have been awarded for their outstanding kindness, courtesy, and bravery. TCA expresses gratitude to its program sponsor, EpicVue, along with supporting sponsors DriverFacts and Northland Insurance.
Phil Damme: An Inspiring Rescue at Night
On the night of October 5, 2025, Phil Damme, driving for Online Transport, noticed an overturned semi-truck on Interstate 68 in Maryland. Upon realizing the serious situation, he assisted in rescuing the trapped driver by using his belt as a tourniquet to control severe bleeding until help arrived. Damme credited his timely actions to being guided to the scene.
Owen Lewis: A Comforting Presence After a Crash
Owen Lewis of Sharp Transportation Inc. earned his recognition by coming to the aid of a young woman involved in a serious crash on Interstate 80 in Iowa. He found her shaken but unharmed and provided warmth and reassurance while waiting for the authorities. Her family expressed sincere gratitude for his kindness and quick actions during the incident.
Marco Medel Morga: Bravery Amidst Flames
Marco Medel Morga, a driver for AAA Cooper Transportation, displayed remarkable bravery when he witnessed a severe accident on July 15, 2025. After witnessing a vehicle catch fire, he promptly pulled over to help, successfully rescuing passengers from the burning car before emergency responders arrived.
John Bradley: Swift Action During a Medical Emergency
John Bradley from James River Carriers was recognized for his quick thinking on September 15, 2025, when he noticed another driver in distress. After calling for assistance, Bradley intervened to stop the rolling truck, ensuring medical help arrived promptly, ultimately discovering the driver had experienced a medical emergency related to blood sugar levels.
