New Health Check App for Truck Drivers
Truck drivers can now perform a quick 30-second health assessment focusing on the risks associated with hypertension and Type 2 diabetes thanks to a new smartphone application developed by Health in Transportation and NuraLogix.
Introducing the CDL Health Scanner
The CDL Health Scanner app, which is awaiting a patent, enables drivers to measure essential health indicators using either an iPhone or Android device. This user-friendly system employs Anura technology to assess blood pressure through transdermal optical imaging via a smartphone camera.
Identifying Health Risks
By integrating the user’s Body Mass Index (BMI) data, the app helps to identify the risks for hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, and obstructive sleep apnea— a common issue among long-haul truckers, according to NuraLogix representatives in a public statement.
Impact on Disqualifications
“Nearly 80% of disqualifications resulting from a Department of Transportation medical examination stem from high blood pressure, unsafe blood sugar levels, and obstructive sleep apnea. This app not only alerts drivers about potential health risks but also connects them with specialized health coaches who can assist them in making lifestyle adjustments that will significantly improve their health,” officials noted.
Potential for Data Collection
Though the CDL Health Scanner app only utilizes a fraction of NuraLogix’s full monitoring capabilities, providing Anura access to hundreds of thousands of professional drivers is expected to generate valuable data that will enhance the Anura platform.
