Duane Howard Breaks Victory Drought at Grandview Speedway
Duane Howard from Oley, Pa., surged from his twelfth starting position to take the lead on lap eleven, ending his personal winless streak with an impressive victory in the 30-lap T.P. Trailer NASCAR Modified feature on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway.
This marked Howard’s 89th career win in the 358 Modified category at Grandview Speedway, which includes 81 victories in the Saturday night NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series and 8 wins in the Thunder on the Hill Series. His previous win at Grandview was in September 2021.
Meanwhile, Addison Meitzler of Kempton, Pa., who claimed his first victory of the season last week, followed it with a second win, taking the lead on lap seventeen from Brayden Shelton of Hatfield, Pa. Meitzler successfully held off a late surge from Colin Cox of Perkasie, Pa., in the 25-lap T.P. Truck Equipment Sportsman feature.
The Outlaw Racing Series Vintage cars also participated, with Jr. Mikosz winning in the Modified division of their 15-lap race, while Sven Olson was the first Sportsman car to cross the finish line in his division.
Winners in the Modified and Sportsman races each received bonuses ($300 and $200, respectively) courtesy of T.P. Trailers and Truck Equipment, the divisions’ sponsors. Additionally, Howard earned a $400 bonus from Sitko Superior Construction, which was hosting a company picnic at the speedway that night.
After several weeks of rain cancellations, the race teams and fans enjoyed an exciting evening of stock car racing. The program proceeded with only a brief delay during the qualifying heat races, allowing the complete event to finish on Saturday night.
In the Modified feature, Bobby Trapper Sr. from Scranton, Pa., initially took the lead, but after a red flag on lap six due to a multi-car incident, the race saw multiple drivers jockeying for position. Howard moved past Kormann into second place on lap eight and executed a daring pass on Trapper Sr. to seize the lead by lap eleven. He maintained a significant advantage, ultimately claiming his first T.P. Trailer Modified victory of the season and becoming the sixth different winner in the division.
