Introduction of GPA Trucker Mobile App
The Georgia Ports Authority has officially introduced the GPA Trucker mobile application, aimed at enhancing the trucking operations at the Port of Savannah.
Efficiency in Daily Operations
The Port of Savannah efficiently manages between 14,000 and 16,000 gate transactions each day from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Truck turnaround times average 35 minutes for single moves and 53 minutes for double transactions at the Garden City Terminal.
Real-Time Information Access
The newly launched GPA Trucker app offers drivers real-time updates, allowing them to decrease travel time, streamline documentation, and receive crucial notifications, such as changes in gate hours to better plan their schedules.
Enhanced Security Features
The application adds convenience and security via support for facial recognition and fingerprint login options.
Improving Driver Efficiency
According to Griff Lynch, GPA President and CEO, providing tools to help alleviate challenges before drivers reach the gates enhances efficiency for both drivers and cargo owners. The increased efficiency can enable drivers to complete six to eight turns per day to local warehouses, allowing them to be home in time for dinner, which consequently lowers inventory holding costs for cargo owners.
Container Transaction Simplification
The app’s primary goal is to simplify the processes involved in container transactions. Georgia Ports utilizes 72-hour PIN codes to monitor container movements, which drivers present at terminal gates to obtain tickets detailing the pickup or drop-off locations of containers.
Digital Ticketing Convenience
The GPA Trucker app now features a digital ticket option that can be saved or shared with the driver’s trucking company. The app is available for free download on both Apple App Store and Google Play.
