Growth with Values

While bigger isn’t always synonymous with better, it is possible to expand without compromising the core principles that contribute to a successful business.

Commitment to Customers and Employees

This is a key insight from a discussion with Sherri Garner Brumbaugh, the president and CEO of Garner Trucking. The company, founded by her parents over 60 years ago, remains steadfast in its commitment to both customers and employees.

Company Overview

Located in Findlay, Ohio, Garner operates 90 tractors and 350 trailers, primarily serving clients in the upper Midwest with an average haul length of 350 miles.

A Family-Centric Approach

Brumbaugh emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, “We’re a family company with 150 employees, and everyone understands that collaboration is essential for our success, our families, and our customers.”

Focusing on Employee Health

The company’s focus on health and wellness led to the introduction of the Rolling Strong app in 2021, allowing all employees free access. Brumbaugh recognized that while the company took care of its equipment, it needed to prioritize the health of its drivers.

Increased Engagement and Leadership by Example

Since offering the Rolling Strong app, employee engagement has surged. Brumbaugh actively participates in the program, demonstrating her commitment and leading by example. She recently ranked among the top earners in a wellness competition for tracking health metrics using the app.

Addressing Industry Challenges

Garner is also aware of the challenges posed by high fuel prices, equipment costs, and parts shortages, which lead to more downtime. Brumbaugh is focused on strengthening supply chain resilience and advocating for increased domestic production.

Recognition and Future Outlook

Under Brumbaugh’s leadership, Garner has been recognized for its excellence, securing a spot as a Best Fleet to Drive For for the sixth consecutive year and earning accolades in its category. Brumbaugh’s extensive experience and leadership in the industry position Garner favorably for future challenges.
