Engen’s Free Health Screenings for Truck Drivers
This October, coinciding with Transport Month, Engen is offering complimentary health screenings for truck drivers throughout South Africa, highlighting their dedication to the wellbeing of these vital professionals.
The Engen Driver Wellness initiative will commence on October 20, providing free health assessments at 29 Engen Truck Stops and multiple Engen 1-Stops across the nation, continuing last year’s extensive efforts.
Engen is partnering once again with Trucking Wellness, a program set up by the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry (NBCRFLI), to facilitate health screenings and wellness support for drivers on location.
“Long hours and demanding schedules make wellness initiatives critical for drivers,” states Adnaan Emeran, Engen’s Commercial Marketing and Business Development Manager, emphasizing the importance of truck drivers as essential contributors to road safety and the economy.
Last year’s Transport Month saw over 1,600 health screenings conducted, reflecting a significant increase of 400 from the prior year. Participating drivers will again receive various health checks, including screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and more, along with a free bag as an appreciation gesture.
Ongoing Support with Permanent Clinics
According to Tertius Wessels from Trucking Wellness, ensuring the health of truck drivers is crucial for the industry’s longevity. They often encounter unique health challenges, and with wellness services brought directly to their locations, early diagnosis and healthier lifestyles can be advocated.
Outside Transport Month, drivers can access ongoing medical services at six dedicated Trucking Wellness clinics situated at key Engen Truck Stop locations throughout the country.
