Florida Trucking Association Launches Workforce Initiative

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The Florida Trucking Association (FTA) is excited to announce the introduction of “Jobs Beyond the Wheel,” a strategic workforce development program designed to tackle the pressing shortage of skilled labor in the trucking sector.

“Every truck on Florida’s highways symbolizes a team of skilled professionals behind the scenes,” stated Alix Miller, FTA’s president and CEO. “The trucking industry provides thrilling and lucrative career opportunities that we aim to illuminate. This campaign includes personal testimonials from workers about the skills they’ve gained and the paths they’ve taken. Our goal is to highlight the vibrant opportunities available for Floridians to see how their abilities can align with a crucial industry that thrives on innovation and potential.”

Multi-Year Project Overview

This campaign is the third phase of a long-term project focused on workforce enhancement and improving the industry’s public image. It includes a new interactive website created to showcase the talent within the sector and emphasize career opportunities in trucking for job seekers.

Addressing Workforce Challenges

This initiative is timely as the trucking sector battles significant workforce challenges while continuing to play an essential role in the economy. Given that trucking supports nearly every aspect of commerce, this program seeks to underline the diverse and high-paying career paths available and establish clear entry routes into the industry.

New Career Website Launch

At the heart of the campaign is a detailed website, accessible at www.floridatrucking.org/jobs, featuring career insights, training materials, job listings, and direct connections to employers across Florida. The platform highlights a variety of roles beyond driving, including:

  • Diesel technicians tasked with truck and trailer maintenance and repairs.
  • Manufacturing specialists involved in producing and maintaining essential truck parts.
  • Brokers and customer operations personnel overseeing daily customer relations.
  • Dispatchers and load tracking experts who support drivers on the road.
  • Transportation lawyers providing legal guidance on regulations and safety standards.
  • HR, accounting, and recruiting teams that support staffing in trucking companies.
  • Safety experts focused on training and ensuring roadway safety.
  • Public relations and digital communication professionals sharing the industry’s narrative.

Campaign Marketing Strategy

The initiative will be promoted through a comprehensive marketing approach that includes print ads in industry and career magazines, a strong social media presence, public events like the Truck Driving Championships, and outreach to educational institutions and workforce development organizations.

“’Jobs Beyond the Wheel’ highlights various roles and individuals who are integral to the trucking industry—for job seekers today and for students exploring post-graduation opportunities,” remarked Elizabeth Emmanuel, FTA’s vice president of public affairs and the project’s creative director. “Regardless of life stage or educational background, we want to position transportation as an attractive career option.”

This campaign is partially funded by FloridaCommerce.
