Major Revamp of Volvo’s Articulated Dump Trucks
After introducing a significant redesign of its excavators for the first time in two decades, Volvo has now fully revamped its articulated dump trucks, including the addition of a new size to its lineup.
Watch the video from this year’s World of Asphalt for a detailed look at the new A50 hauler, which takes the place of the 45-ton A45G FS.
The A50 offers improved fuel efficiency and features a completely redesigned, comfortable cab. It incorporates numerous technological advancements for easier operation, enhanced visibility for operators, improved safety features, and simplified maintenance access, according to Volvo.
Additionally, the A50 is constructed with low-carbon steel and has the capability to accommodate future drivetrain technologies.
Among its enhancements, the floor area has been increased, noise levels reduced, and new features such as hanging pedals, a steering wheel, and an adjustable seat have been introduced. The premium seat includes heating and cooling functions along with automatic air suspension adjustments based on the operator’s weight.
The redesign also features a sleeker hood with a lower slope and larger window panels to improve visibility. A Volvo Co-Pilot touchscreen is included for better situational awareness, with a standard entrance camera and available front and rear camera options.
Operator-Focused Technology
To enhance operator efficiency, the A50 includes various technologies such as:
– Haul Assist, which features on-board weighing to provide real-time payload information, preventing overloading and minimizing fuel consumption and machine wear.
– Connected Map, a positioning system that offers a visual overview of all machinery and vehicles on-site through a cloud-based online portal for both operators and office staff.
– Performance Indicator, which delivers a digital overview of production metrics, fuel efficiency, and cycle data through a real-time dashboard.
– ActiveCare Direct telematics.
