Celebrating a Trailblazer in Trucking
Earlier this year, the Women In Trucking Association (WIT) recognized Ericka Norfleet, a professional truck driver at A2B Synchronized Logistics, as their Member of the Month.
A Childhood Dream Realized
As a child, Norfleet was captivated by large trucks, unaware that her interest would evolve into a career on the highways. Like many kids, she adored road trips, often enthusiastically encouraging truck drivers to honk their horns with her classic arm pump.
During those formative years, instances of women driving 18-wheelers were scarce, leading her to dismiss the possibility of pursuing that path herself.
A Journey of Passion and Perseverance
Now, with a decade of experience under her belt, Norfleet is a proud professional truck driver, a finalist for the WIT 2025 Driver of the Year award, and an advocate for women joining the profession.
“After taking a trip with a friend to deliver a load, I instantly knew this was my calling,” Norfleet stated. “The sense of freedom was exhilarating.”
Embracing Challenges in a Competitive Field
Norfleet recently joined A2B Synchronized Logistics, where her enthusiasm for trucking continues to flourish each day, although the journey hasn’t been without its difficulties.
“Truck driving is not for the weak. The job can be tough, especially for women,” she shared, crediting her family, particularly her husband, as her main source of motivation and support.
“My family has consistently encouraged me, and having my husband as a mentor has been invaluable,” she added, highlighting his 29 years of experience in the industry as a guiding light.
Finding Strength in Community
A pivotal moment for Norfleet was joining WIT, which revealed the significant number of women making strides in the trucking field, despite often not seeing them on the road.
“It’s incredible to connect with a community of strong women who uplift each other,” she noted. “Being part of the Women In Trucking Association has shown me that I am not alone.”
She sees her role extending beyond just being a driver; she aims to be a mentor for women aspiring to enter trucking.
A Vision for the Future
While Norfleet has achieved much already, she has even bigger goals in sight, including supporting her son through his first year of college and eventually owning a small fleet.
“Doing what I love and helping empower other women in this field is a great privilege,” she expressed.
Life Beyond the Roads
Norfleet’s story is just as remarkable outside of her trucking career. She has a surprising collection of rubber ducks and enjoys crafting Halloween decorations.
“I love them, and they have designs for every holiday,” she chuckled about her duck collection. In her downtime, she watches “The Walking Dead” repeatedly and dreams of visiting Las Vegas—not for gambling, but to see the dancing waters.
Her journey highlights that passion, support, and self-belief pave the way for success, both on the road and in life.
Norfleet encourages those who are hesitant to take that leap: “Don’t let anything hold you back.”
