Shanieka Davis: Nursing Professional Turned Freight Dispatch Entrepreneur
Residing in Rockingham, Shanieka Davis has dedicated two decades to nursing after completing her Nursing Assistant and Practical Nursing education at Richmond Community College. In addition, she is the founder of S-Class Logistics, a freight dispatching firm in the trucking sector.
Growth of S-Class Logistics
Davis secured her first contract for S-Class Logistics on April 24, and the company has seen consistent growth since. Having embarked on this journey five years ago, she is eager to share her insights with others in the field.
Free Seminar on Freight Dispatching
Teaming up with RichmondCC’s Small Business Center, Davis will host a complimentary seminar titled “Introduction to the Business of Freight Dispatching” on October 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robinette Building in Rockingham. This event will cover various aspects of trucking logistics and the steps to launching a freight dispatching business.
Education and Mentorship Journey
Since beginning her quest for self-employment in 2019, Davis has participated in 27 webinars and has received 35 hours of guidance from the Small Business Center. Initially considering obtaining a commercial driver’s license, she changed course upon reflecting on the implications for her daughter. The pivotal moment came in September 2019 when she discovered a webinar on starting a small business, igniting her passion for entrepreneurship.
Transition to Trucking Industry
After exploring various business ideas, including a home-based medical scrubs venture and later a nail salon, Davis returned her focus to the trucking field. Encouraged by The Trucking Guru, Kierra Henderson, who suggested building a business rather than driving, Davis pursued additional training by enrolling in a Freight Dispatching Course, which she completed in July 2023.
Future Aspirations and Services Offered
Now actively engaged with carriers across the nation, Davis runs S-Class Logistics on weekdays and continues her nursing career on weekends until her business can fully support her family. Her ambitions include obtaining a broker’s license and owning her fleet eventually. In addition to dispatching, she provides compliance, drug consortium, and consulting services, and is developing educational courses to aid others interested in logistics entrepreneurship.

Davis credits the Small Business Center at Richmond Community College for significantly contributing to her business’s growth. She highlights the wealth of resources and classes that have equipped her with practical skills directly applicable to her operations. Expressing immense gratitude, Davis reflects on how the center has reshaped her entrepreneurial mindset and facilitated her journey toward success.
