LINCOLN, Neb., Feb. 4, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Despite experiencing various downward trends in January, dealers in the used construction equipment, agricultural machinery, and commercial truck markets are showing cautious optimism. Reasonable January sales in some sectors, combined with the belief that certain markets have reached their lowest point and may be recovering, have led to a tentative positive outlook for gradual growth throughout 2026.

January marked the seventh month of declining inventory in the U.S. used heavy-duty construction equipment market, with a 2.6% drop month-over-month and a 13.05% decline year-over-year. The used wheel loader category faced the most significant decreases, falling 3.74% month-over-month and 14.06% year-over-year.

Recent Sandhills Global market analyses reveal trends in inventory, asking prices, and auction values for used equipment, trucks, and trailers. While most markets continue to see declining inventories, several value trends indicated improvement in January. Notably, asking and auction values for used heavy-duty construction equipment shifted from a downward trend to a sideways direction.

The Sandhills Equipment Value Index (EVI) is central to all market reports. This index allows buyers and sellers to keep track of equipment values and optimize their purchase or sale decisions. The Sandhills EVI data encompasses equipment available in various market segments and incorporates model-year equipment currently in operation. The EVI spread reflects the percentage difference between asking prices and auction values.

Market Report Highlights

Sandhills’ market reports detail significant changes in the used heavy-duty truck, semi-trailer, farm machinery, and construction equipment sectors. Key findings from the latest reports are summarized below. Comprehensive reports can be requested.

In January, the U.S. used heavy-duty construction equipment inventory continued its downward spiral for the seventh consecutive month, with inventory levels decreasing 2.6% month-over-month and 13.05% year-over-year. Conversely, asking values increased 1.93% month-over-month but decreased 2.87% year-over-year, currently trending sideways.

Auction values for January rose by 2.91% month-over-month but slightly declined 0.35% year-over-year, also maintaining a sideways trend. The used crawler excavator category notably improved, with a 4.93% month-over-month increase, while used crawler dozers reflected a 1.13% year-over-year drop.

Story Continues

Additional market analyses reveal further details regarding various equipment sectors, including medium-duty trucks, aerial lifts, forklifts, telehandlers, high-horsepower tractors, combines, sprayers, planters, compact tractors, used heavy-duty trucks, semi-trailers, and more.
