Meet Liam Houghton: The Trucking Chef Sensation
Liam Houghton has been a truck driver for so long that he struggles to recall exactly how many years he’s spent on the road. He estimates it to be at least a dozen years, but when you’ve been doing it for that long, “you start losing track,” he shared in a Zoom interview.
From Anonymity to Online Fame
For most of his career, Houghton lived in relative anonymity while on the highways. However, everything changed when he began sharing videos on social media showcasing his culinary skills, making elaborate meals in his truck.
A Day in the Life of “Trucker Liam”
Houghton, now 38, finds it perfectly normal to whip up meals on the job. “Well, I thought it was,” he remarked. His cooking videos have garnered significant interest, with viewers keen to see how truckers live behind closed curtains.
Culinary Adventures on the Road
His recent cooking escapades include a variety of dishes, such as T-bone steaks, roasted chicken, and even rack of lamb. The lasagna he made surprised him the most, as he mixed available ingredients on hand instead of the typical ones.
Fresh vs. Factory-Made
Houghton prefers cooking his own meals over relying on microwave options. “I’d rather eat fresh food than this factory-made stuff,” he explained. His choice to cook stems from a desire to avoid preservatives often found in pre-packaged meals.
A Fully Equipped Truck
Houghton’s truck is equipped with an array of kitchen amenities, including an air fryer, microwave, small fridge, and even an induction cooktop. It’s also furnished with entertainment options like a flat-screen TV and gaming consoles, making it a comfortable mobile home.
Sharing His Passion
Despite his newfound fame, Houghton humbly describes himself as just a trucker. “I cook food like everybody else does, but I’m the idiot who records it and puts it online,” he said. His culinary videos continue to captivate and engage a growing online audience.
