**Daimler Truck Financial Services USA LLC (DTFS) and GEICO Team Up for Innovative Insurance Program**
Daimler Truck Financial Services USA LLC (DTFS) and GEICO, a leading insurer in the U.S., have unveiled a new data-driven insurance initiative called Connected Insurance. This program is specifically designed to help owner-operators of Freightliner and Western Star trucks, as well as small fleets, reduce their insurance premiums while encouraging safer driving behaviors. The initiative is managed through DTFS’s subsidiary, Daimler Truck Insurance Agency LLC.
Connected Insurance is an enhancement to GEICO’s existing DriveEasy Pro program, utilizing data to incentivize safe driving practices. Customers driving Freightliner and Western Star vehicles can voluntarily share their real-time Detroit Connect telematics data, benefiting from the program without needing to install extra on-board diagnostics or dash cameras. This approach not only allows for more accurate underwriting but also simplifies the claims process. Eligible participants can potentially reduce their commercial vehicle insurance costs by as much as 10 percent.
Kevin Bangston, president and CEO of Daimler Truck Financial Services North America, emphasized the company’s commitment to offering innovative financial solutions tailored to its customers’ needs. He remarked that this strategic collaboration with GEICO introduces a smart, data-driven insurance option aimed at lowering one of the significant operational expenses faced by their customers.
Chris Sions, GEICO’s head of partnerships, noted that real-time data from Daimler Truck’s telematics platform allows for improved risk assessment and rewards for safe driving, which in turn delivers meaningful savings to their clients. The partnership with Daimler Truck Financial Services is crucial for GEICO as it seeks to expand its commercial trucking insurance offerings nationwide.
The launch of Connected Insurance is timely, given the current challenges in the trucking industry, where insurance costs are cited as the fourth-most significant concern for carriers, especially small businesses. This new program directly tackles that issue by making comprehensive coverage more accessible and affordable, thereby supporting the success of independent drivers and small fleets.
GEICO’s expansion into commercial trucking insurance creates more tailored coverage options for Freightliner and Western Star customers. Developed with input from owner-operators and industry experts, the initiative combines real-time telematics data with advanced analytics to provide competitive rates supported by Berkshire Hathaway. The years of experience GEICO has in auto insurance is now complemented with specialized knowledge in trucking to enhance claims services for commercial vehicles.
