City Truck Equipment Announces Launch as Independent Upfitting Brand

City Rent a Truck has announced the launch of its new sister company, City Truck Equipment, a comprehensive upfitting brand that delivers high-quality, ready-to-work truck builds.

City Truck Equipment originated as an internal method to address delays and quality issues with external upfitters. By managing the work internally, City Rent a Truck enhanced efficiency, quality oversight, and turnaround times while recognizing that its customers were experiencing similar problems.

“Relying on external upfitters limited our ability to meet our customers’ timelines,” stated Jeff Schuetz, President & CEO. “No one will ever care for your customers the way you do. When ‘Customer First’ is your primary value, every choice should enhance their experience.”

From Internal Solution to Industry Leader

What started as a small in-house project has transformed into one of the fastest-growing upfitters in the nation. Over the last five years, the builds from City Truck Equipment have thrived in extremely challenging rental environments.

“We’ve spent the last five years customizing our rental fleet and observing how those trucks perform in demanding situations,” said Shaefer Schuetz, Vice President of Business Development. “Having refined our skills on our own fleet, we are now prepared to offer this service to our clients.”

Comprehensive Capabilities

City Truck Equipment operates from its modern headquarters in Kansas City, MO, with additional facilities located in Olathe, KS; Houston, TX; Atlanta, GA; and St. Louis, MO.

“Over time, we have mastered nearly every truck configuration imaginable,” remarked James McKinley, Vice President of Operations. “Our diverse rental fleet has driven us to become specialists in builds ranging from service bodies to tri-axle dumps, and everything in between.”

City Truck Equipment’s expertise includes mechanic body crane trucks, flatbeds, reel transport beds, framer bodies, contractor bodies, van storage systems, and more, all backed by in-house engineering, fabrication, electrical, and hydraulic teams.

Committed to Builders

Guided by the brand promise, “Building Trucks That Build America,” City Truck Equipment comprises builders and problem-solvers who acknowledge the importance of minimizing downtime and ensuring dependable fleet performance.

“Our commitment remains unchanged,” stated Schuetz. “We strive to create memorable customer experiences by fostering relationships and expressing genuine appreciation.”

Both City Rent a Truck and City Truck Equipment share the same leadership team, ensuring that customers benefit from the high standards of service, responsiveness, and quality synonymous with the City brand for over six decades.

About City Truck Equipment

City Truck Equipment specializes in customizing and upfitting work trucks and vans for vocational fleets. The entire build process is conducted in-house, combining engineering, fabrication, electrical, and hydraulic expertise.
