BIDDEFORD, Maine — Unique Trucking with Heart
Brown Dog Carriers and Logistics stands out as a trucking company with a distinct mission: “Create a world where we whine less and wag more.” They even have a chief canine officer on their team!
Established in 2017 by Graig Morin, the company’s president, and Darrell Pardy, the finance and business development director, Brown Dog is named in honor of Lily Rae Morin, a chocolate Labrador Retriever adopted by Morin’s wife, Christine, in 2009. Lily serves as the company’s chief canine officer and has traveled over 500,000 miles with Morin.
Pardy reminisced about their initial meeting, saying, “When Graig and I decided to launch Brown Dog, I asked for name suggestions. Expecting something like ‘Morin & Sons,’ he surprised me with ‘Brown Dog,’ inspired by their Labrador. I instantly saw the branding potential—it’s hard not to love Labradors! Meeting Lily sealed the deal for me.”
Starting with just two trucks hauling general freight across New England, Brown Dog has expanded rapidly to eight trucks, 18 drivers, and a supportive team of five that includes Morin, Pardy, and Lily, along with Carolyn Hughes for HR and accounting, and Jeff Dorais managing operations.
Commitment to Community
Beyond their logistical services, Brown Dog is committed to their community, supporting not just Biddeford, Maine, but the wider New England region. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they initiated “A Helping Paw,” a program aimed at delivering essential supplies to those affected by the crisis.
Morin emphasized the vital role truck drivers play during emergencies: “People rely on us to transport essentials, and we’re focused on keeping operations running while ensuring safe practices for our team.” Brown Dog aims to collaborate with Maine businesses and organizations contributing to the COVID-19 response.
Supporting Local Causes
Brown Dog also extends their support to nonprofit and veteran-service organizations like Wreaths Across America and K9s on the Front Line, even hosting educational exhibits to honor military heroes. Pardy explained that they aim to leverage their resources to assist community partners in serving more people effectively.
Further contributing to local support, Brown Dog is hosting a summer social media contest to help local Biddeford and Saco restaurants, encouraging community members to nominate their favorites for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate.
All About Lily
The company’s chief canine officer Lily also plays an essential role, being a beloved goodwill ambassador. Since her adoption in 2009, she has become an integral part of the Morin family and has formed special connections with customers during her travels.
As Lily continues her journey with Graig, she brings joy to many and now enjoys playing with her three human brothers in their backyard.
