ASE Certification Overview

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) provides T-Series and E-Series certification exams to assess the skills of professional service technicians specializing in medium to heavy trucks and equipment.

T-Series Certification Tests

ASE’s T-Series tests aim to recognize technicians skilled in diagnosing, servicing, and repairing a variety of systems in Class 4 to Class 8 trucks and tractors. There are eight certification tests in the T-Series, which include:

  • Gasoline Engines (T1)
  • Diesel Engines (T2)
  • Drive Train (T3)
  • Brakes (T4)
  • Suspension and Steering (T5)
  • Electrical/Electronic Systems (T6)
  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) (T7)
  • Preventive Maintenance Inspection (T8)

Individuals who achieve certification in tests T2 through T8 are acknowledged as ASE Certified Master medium-heavy truck technicians.

E-Series Certification Tests

The E-Series certification tests by ASE are focused on recognizing truck equipment technicians with the necessary skills to install, diagnose, service, and repair truck equipment and associated support systems for all truck and tractor classes.

There are three tests in the E-Series:

  • Truck Equipment Installation and Repair (E1)
  • Electrical/Electronic Systems Installation and Repair (E2)
  • Auxiliary Power Systems Installation and Repair (E3)

Technicians passing tests E1 through E3 are acknowledged as ASE-Certified Master truck equipment technicians.
