Support from Coastal Bridge and Construction
Coastal Bridge and Construction, a company based in Port Alberni, is playing a pivotal role in combating the Mount Underwood fire alongside the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).
Registration with BC Wildfire Service
The firm registers its forestry equipment with BC Wildfire Service, allowing wildfire teams to easily contact them when fires occur.
Preparedness for Fire Response
Carol Brown, CFO of Coastal Bridge, noted, “We also worked on the Wesley Ridge fire; given our shop’s proximity to the current blaze, we were on standby.” Upon learning of the fire, the team promptly prepared various vehicles, including a water truck, for BCWS deployment.
Fire Mitigation Efforts
BC Wildfire Service employs this equipment to eliminate hazardous trees and create fire breaks, which helps impede the fire’s spread.
Collaboration with BC Wildfire
Brown mentioned, “We are directed by BC Wildfire, and we are not the only contractors assisting them.” She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support the wildfire efforts and praised the professionalism of the crews involved.
Proximity to Evacuation Zone
As Coastal Bridge lies on the edge of the evacuation alert zone, Brown shared that they are closely monitoring the situation. “While the front of our office had clear skies, stepping out the back revealed an apocalyptic scene,” she remarked.
Appreciation for Firefighting Efforts
Brown expressed her gratitude for the hard work that BC Wildfire Service is putting into controlling the blaze.
