Incident on the Highway
Data engineer Nathan (@NateWiki) recently experienced some troubling behavior from drivers on a highway and posted a video of the encounter on X.

Blockade Encounter

“I took my Model 3 on a road trip, and these three a******* formed a blockade in front of me, sending all their fumes my way,” he expressed. “This should be illegal. I wish I had a HEPA air filter at this moment…”

Despicable Behavior

The video Nathan shared showed three pickup trucks obstructing the entire highway while driving ahead of him. One of the vehicles deliberately activated additional exhaust to send a message to the electric vehicle driver.

Understanding 'Rolling Coal'

This behavior, known as "rolling coal," involves diesel trucks injecting more fuel than can be burned completely, creating thick black smoke from the exhaust. This act is intended to demonstrate disdain for those who are environmentally conscious.

Health Risks and Environmental Impact

Rolling coal not only poses serious safety risks but also contributes to significant health issues due to excessive vehicle pollution. The harmful emissions include volatile organic compounds, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides.

Benefits of Electric Vehicles

In contrast, electric vehicle (EV) owners enjoy reduced maintenance and fueling expenses while also combating detrimental weather changes caused by pollution. Events such as floods, droughts, heatwaves, and storms are escalating ecological, housing, and agricultural costs.

Community Reactions

Nathan's followers on X expressed empathy for his situation. One commented, “Coal rolling is extremely unhealthy and should be a federal offense.” Another suggested reporting the drivers for their reckless behavior, emphasizing the need for accountability.
