Introducing Jason Wesley Hawes: Fit Driver of the Month

Meet Jason Wesley Hawes, the Fit Driver of the Month for October. His story is sure to inspire you as much as it inspired me while writing it.

Family-Driven Motivation

Like many truck drivers, Jason’s drive to prioritize his health stems from a familial connection. His children, who are all involved in sports, look to him for inspiration on how to become their best selves.

Reflecting on His Journey

Jason recalls his past as a wrestler and his military service, which included going through SEAL training and serving as a Navy Rescue Swimmer. However, after leaving the military, he became inactive, leading to weight gain, prediabetes, and high blood pressure—conditions he discovered during a VA visit.

A Catalyst for Change

Watching his daughter set world records in running prompted Jason to reassess his fitness. Looking in the mirror, he recognized he wasn’t the role model he aspired to be for his kids and resolved to make a change.

Active Lifestyle Routine

Now, on his days off, Jason’s daily routine kicks off at 5 a.m. with his two oldest daughters. They engage in over 30 different exercises targeting various muscle groups. Later, he enjoys time with his 5-year-old daughter, affectionately known as “Olympic Olivia,” often hitting the track or hiking trail for 1 to 3 miles at a time.

Health Maintenance on the Road

Maintaining his health while driving is crucial. Jason describes himself as a meat-and-potatoes guy. Working in oilfields and storm recovery requires a higher calorie and protein intake. Despite the challenges of being on the road, he has established a fitness regimen that includes push-ups, sit-ups, and bodyweight exercises throughout his day, all aimed at enhancing his overall health.

The Importance of Accountability

Jason acknowledges that while starting a fitness journey can be tough, discipline and accountability make it rewarding. He emphasizes that staying active not only boosts energy levels but also enhances family time. Ultimately, for Jason, fitness transcends mere health; it signifies being present for his loved ones.

Final Thoughts

In closing, Jason’s wake-up call came when he decided to hit the treadmill after a three-year hiatus from running, and he’s been committed ever since. He encourages others to reach out for support in their fitness journeys, as a community of support is always available, even in the trucking industry.
