Apollo Tyres Celebrates 25 Years of Healthcare Initiative
Apollo Tyres recently commemorated the 25th anniversary of its significant Healthcare Programme, which was inaugurated in 2000 with the aim of enhancing the health and welfare of the trucking community. The celebration featured notable attendees including Rajeev Kumar Sinha, Chief Manufacturing Officer, Rajesh Dahiya, Vice President of Commercial (India, SAARC, Southeast Asia), and Shri Kultaran Singh Atwal, the former President of the All India Motor Transport Congress.
Release of White Paper on Truckers’ Well-being
The anniversary event also involved the launch of a white paper titled “Truckers – the Backbone of Our Supply Chain.” This document sheds light on various facets of truck drivers’ lives, focusing on their challenges, threats, and overall quality of life. The findings reveal that a significant 74% of truck drivers are looking for access to medical assistance on the road, facilitated by technology. With 74% of drivers owning smartphones, there is an excellent opportunity to utilize digital solutions to enhance their health and operational efficiency.
Introduction of Swasth Saarthi App
Apollo Tyres has introduced the Swasth Saarthi mobile app to provide essential medical support for truck drivers while on the move. Key functionalities of the app include video consultations with healthcare providers and locating the nearest Apollo Tyres Healthcare Centre. In its initial phase, the company anticipates serving approximately 10,000 truck drivers through this app.
A Commitment to Healthcare for Truckers
During his speech, Rajeev Kumar Sinha reiterated Apollo Tyres’ commitment to the ‘One Family’ values, showcasing their dedication to providing customized healthcare solutions for the trucking community. He mentioned the company’s expansion of healthcare initiatives beyond fixed medical units to include Mobile Medical Units and the innovative Swasth Saarthi app.
Two Decades of Impact in the Trucking Sector
For over 25 years, Apollo Tyres has been a steadfast supporter of the trucking community via its Healthcare Programme, which addresses the distinct health concerns commonly encountered by drivers who lead mobile lives and have limited access to medical services. The initiative initially started with the Healthy Highway Project in collaboration with DFID, which set a precedent in HIV awareness and prevention.
Achievements of Apollo Tyres Foundation
Since the launch of the healthcare programme in 2000, the Apollo Tyres Foundation has benefited over 11 million individuals in the trucking sector. The foundation has conducted more than 1,000 health checkup camps and established 34 healthcare centers across 21 states, thus ensuring accessible and quality healthcare for this indispensable segment of the economy.
