Charges Against Danbury Business Owner

A business owner in Danbury has been charged for not providing workers’ compensation insurance for his employees, as reported by officials.

Incident Overview

Rahamat Hydar, the 55-year-old owner of Meagan’s Auto, Truck & Equipment Specialist LLC, is facing scrutiny after an employee was injured on the job. The state Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) stated that Hydar lacked coverage for his workers when the incident occurred.

Details of the Accident

The injury took place in November 2023 when the employee was involved in a serious work-related accident while helping a customer at a tow truck scene. At that point, Hydar was without workers’ compensation insurance, according to the DCJ.

Investigation Findings

An investigation uncovered that Hydar’s business had previously canceled its workers’ compensation policies multiple times, although there were periods when coverage was in effect, the DCJ noted.

Legal Requirements

The DCJ emphasized that Connecticut state law mandates businesses to demonstrate their financial capability to compensate injured employees or beneficiaries to the Workers’ Compensation Commission. If they fail to do so, they must maintain adequate workers’ compensation insurance to cover all liabilities.

Arrest and Charges

Hydar was arrested on Tuesday and is facing charges of criminal liability and noncompliance with insurance regulations, as per the DCJ.

Future Court Appearance

The DCJ stated that Hydar has been released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Danbury on April 2.
