Innovative Convenience Store for Healthy Eating

Waltham, Mass. — For truck drivers who spend long hours on the road, a sedentary lifestyle is often unavoidable, and access to healthy food options can be limited. Alltown Fresh, a convenience store and fueling station with locations in Massachusetts and Connecticut, aims to address these challenges for both commercial drivers and commuters.

Setting New Standards in Convenience

“We are really setting the frontier for what convenience can be, where wellness and nourishment is not separated,” stated Ryan Riggs, senior vice president of retail operations for Alltown Fresh. He believes that by connecting with drivers, they can tailor their markets to better serve this demographic.

Multiple Store Formats

Since joining the company in June 2018, Riggs noted that there are about seven different versions of the Alltown Fresh brand, with four featuring kitchens. These locations, opened in 2019, can be found in Hamden and Waterbury, Connecticut, as well as Plymouth and Ayer, Massachusetts.

Health-Conscious Offerings

While offering conventional convenience items like chips and sodas, Riggs emphasized that the stores also provide healthier food selections. The goal is to create cleaner, nutritious options specifically for commercial drivers.

Commitment to Freshness

Eric Slifka, president and CEO of Global Partners, the parent company of Alltown Fresh, recognized a demand in the convenience store sector for healthy, on-the-go meal options. He launched Alltown Fresh to ensure that healthy choices need not be sacrificed for convenience and identified a pressing need for better food alternatives.

Tailored Menu Options

Alltown Fresh distinguishes itself by offering fresh food, made-to-order meals, and various dietary options, including organic, gluten-free, vegan, and locally sourced items. “These are our key pillars,” Riggs explained, noting that while not everything in the store fits these categories, there are ample healthier choices for customers seeking them.

Local Supply and Customer Focus

Amid supply shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic, Alltown Fresh engaged local farmers and distributors to ensure a stable supply chain for fresh meals and produce. The brand adapted to changing demands by launching curbside pickups and offering boxes of fresh food for customers. According to Nouilati, the Plymouth location boasts the most successful kitchen in the entire chain, with customers appreciating the variety of healthy, made-to-order meals available.
