Insurance Provider Enhances Motor Truck Cargo Coverage for Greater Protection
MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio, April 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Progressive Insurance has introduced Cargo Plus, a new endorsement designed to widen the scope of Motor Truck Cargo coverage available to for-hire truckers and other qualifying customers.
Motor Truck Cargo coverage ensures protection if a trucker is legally responsible for damage to goods while under their exclusive custody. The newly launched Cargo Plus endorsement enhances this protection by including coverage against risks from wetness, rust, and corrosion, as well as issues stemming from driver errors and temperature fluctuations on refrigerated shipments for those with Refrigeration Breakdown coverage.
The Cargo Plus endorsement will automatically be included in new Progressive policies that feature Motor Truck Cargo coverage. Current customers with Motor Truck Cargo or Refrigeration Breakdown can instantly access this improved coverage through Cargo Plus prior to their policy renewal.
By introducing Cargo Plus, Progressive aims to provide additional assurance to for-hire truckers, enabling them to operate with confidence knowing they possess the necessary coverage. This form of insurance is vital for truckers as it safeguards the goods they transport, making it essential for securing loads with brokers and shippers.

As of April 16, eligible Progressive clients in 42 states can take advantage of the new Cargo Plus coverage: AK, AL, AR, AZ, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, OH, PA, RI, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, WA, WI, WV, and WY.
Pending regulatory approval, Progressive plans to make the Cargo Plus endorsement available in 49 states by May 21, 2025, and aims for it to be accessible in all states by the end of 2025. Please note that Refrigeration Breakdown coverage is not offered for policies issued in CA and FL.
