Driving an 18-Wheeler: The Basics

To operate an 18-wheeler, the primary requirement is a commercial driver’s license (CDL).

Meet Kodi: A Young Truck Driver

At just 5 feet 2 inches and 125 pounds, 22-year-old Kodi revels in the dynamic life of a truck driver.

Surprising Reactions

“People often don’t believe that I drive because I look young and petite, and they rarely see me at truck stops,” Kodi shared on TikTok.

Her Journey to a CDL

Kodi obtained her CDL at 21, the minimum age to operate commercial vehicles outside of one’s home state, although individuals can get their license at 18 in the U.S.

Documenting Her Experience

With around 120,000 TikTok followers, Kodi humorously noted how surprised fellow truckers are to see her behind the wheel. “I often hear at truck stops: ‘That’s you driving that 18-wheeler?’”

Sharing Her Day-to-Day Life

One of her popular videos, which shows her securing the back of a trailer, has received approximately 5.1 million views. She has been driving for about a year, covering significant distances across the U.S.

A Supportive Community

Kodi has traveled to states like Illinois, Nevada, and Texas. Fellow truckers have flooded her comments with encouragement. “Stay safe, sweetheart,” one user wrote. Others expressed admiration for her motivation and hard work.
