Mosquito Spraying Scheduled in Dauphin County

Crews in Dauphin County are set to implement truck-mounted spraying to combat mosquito populations this Friday evening. The spraying operations will commence at approximately 8:30 p.m. in segments of Middle Paxton Township.

According to the Dauphin County Mosquito-Borne Disease Control Program, recent samples indicate a significant adult mosquito population capable of transmitting the West Nile Virus. The targeted spraying areas include:

  • Beamer Lane
  • Canal Road
  • Towpath Road
  • Riverview Road
  • Earl Drive
  • River Road
  • Hagy Lane
  • Lebo Drive

Residents with inquiries are encouraged to reach out to the Dauphin County Mosquito-Borne Disease Control Program Coordinator at 717-921-8100 before 4 p.m. on Friday. Should inclement weather occur, the alternate date for spraying is Monday, June 16.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mosquito Control

Should I wash outdoor toys and items during the application?
While it is an option, washing yard items post-application is not necessary. Minimal exposure is expected due to low application rates; thus, risks remain negligible.

Is it advisable to cover the swimming pool before spraying?
No, because any residues will be diluted by the pool water.

Should windows be closed, and air conditioning turned off?
The ULV vapor disperses quickly, resulting in little movement indoors. However, individuals with respiratory issues like asthma are advised to close windows and turn off air conditioning to prevent any adverse reactions.

How soon can I let my pet outside after spraying?
Pets can go outside immediately after treatment, as the chemical is safe when applied according to the labeled rates.

When can children resume outdoor activities in treated areas?
While the ULV vapor dissipates swiftly, individuals with respiratory conditions should wait about an hour before returning to outdoor activities in the sprayed areas.
