With a new administration in Washington and significant transportation legislation on the horizon, Jake Medwell, founding partner of 8VC, and Loren A. Jake Medwell, the founding partner at 8VC, specializes in both consumer and enterprise investments. As a serial entrepreneur, he has dedicated his career to building and growing businesses, particularly in the logistics and transportation sectors. Before establishing 8VC, he co-founded Humin, a mobile software company, where he oversaw engineering and growth. Additionally, Medwell co-founded The Kairos Society and has served on its board. During his time at the University of Southern California, he founded Sole Bicycle Co., which became an industry leader. Recently, he co-founded Operation Masks alongside Drew Oetting to supply PPE to healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Loren A. Smith Jr. serves as the president of Skyline Policy Risk Group. Between 2017 and 2021, he held the position of deputy assistant secretary for policy at the Department of Transportation. His tenure included roles such as DOT’s chief environmental review permitting officer and chair of the management team for the ROUTES Initiative focused on rural transportation. Moreover, he was involved in a regulatory reform task force, leading initiatives for supersonic aviation. Prior to this role, from 2009 to 2016, Smith was an analyst at Capital Alpha Partners, focusing on transportation policy, particularly related to vehicles and infrastructure, and he authored over 500 research notes.
