Police Seek Public Assistance Following Truck Driver’s Deathbed Confession
Authorities are requesting additional information from the public after a truck driver made a murder confession while on his deathbed.
As reported by Wood TV 8, Garry Artman, a 64-year-old inmate serving a life sentence for a cold case murder from 1996 in Michigan, was hospitalized in December 2023 due to a terminal illness. At the time, he was also awaiting trial for the murder of 24-year-old Dusty Shuck, which occurred in 2006.
While receiving treatment at the hospital, investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit interviewed Artman. It was during this interview that he ultimately confessed to the murder of Shuck, leading to additional questioning, according to First State Update.
In subsequent interviews, Artman also acknowledged being responsible for several other crimes against various individuals, although he provided minimal details. He passed away on December 28, 2023, while still in custody at the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Artman’s death has left law enforcement unable to gather further information from him. Consequently, police are now looking for anyone who might have insights related to the crimes he admitted to committing. Investigators believe that Artman’s role as an over-the-road (OTR) truck driver may have played a part in his extensive criminal activity and could link him to additional unsolved cases.
