Mother’s Day Truck Convoy Returns

This Mother’s Day weekend celebrated a cherished tradition in the Midstate that brings together families and truck drivers.

Support for Critically Ill Children

The annual Make-A-Wish Mother’s Day Truck Convoy has been granting wishes for critically ill children for the past 36 years.

Gabriel Cole’s Journey

16-year-old Gabriel Cole from Manheim, Lancaster County, shared his experience with cystic fibrosis, which he was diagnosed with at the age of two and a half. Along with his dad, Rodney, he has been attending the Truck Convoy for the past several years.

A Special Escape

Cole expressed how overwhelming daily treatments and medications can be, stating that events like this offer a much-needed escape from the routine.

A Long-Standing Community Effort

According to Lori Dietrich, the Development Director of Lancaster Make-A-Wish, this convoy is one of the largest in the country and has drivers who have participated for decades. These drivers fundraise throughout the year specifically to grant wishes to local children.

Impact of Donations

Thanks to last year’s generosity, 74 wishes were granted, with 65 more children currently awaiting wishes that range from trips to puppies and creative bedroom makeovers.

Memorable Experiences

The Cole family was granted a trip to Hawaii, which Gabriel described as a lot of fun. He emphasized that the event is a reminder for families like theirs that they’re not alone in their journey.

Registration for the next year’s Truck Convoy event will begin this fall.
