Nugent’s journey began in 2015 while he was at a campsite with friends. Reminiscing about his two-week holiday spent mainly sitting and consuming food and drinks, a candid remark from those around him hit home: they warned him he wouldn’t be around the following year if he didn’t change. This shocking realization about his health—marked by snoring, sleep apnea, and type 2 diabetes—made him finally consider the long-term consequences of his lifestyle.
“What made those comments truly alarming was that they came from friends I’d known for years, and even their kids, who were around 12 or 13, agreed,” Nugent shared with Men’s Health. “They said, ‘You’re not gonna be here next year.’”
A New Path
Working as a truck driver, Nugent often resorted to fast food and quick snacks due to his demanding schedule, leading to neglect of his health. After trying different diets, inspiration struck when a colleague returned from the holidays looking leaner. This colleague was using the 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan, which emphasizes low-calorie meal replacements.
In February 2016, Nugent, then weighing 168 kg, committed to this diet under the guidance of his consultant, Tamara. “I followed all the recommendations,” he noted. “I drank two liters of water daily, focused on salads, avoided alcohol, and opted for lean meats and fresh vegetables.” This commitment resulted in an impressive 8.9 kg weight loss within the first month.
Achieving Success
Nugent’s dedication led to remarkable results. In just 21 weeks, he lost 40 kg, and after 8.5 months, he had shed 59.6 kg. By the end of 12 months, he achieved his goal weight of 98 kg, having lost a total of 70 kg. He attributes his achievements to his supportive family, friends, and Tamara, who acted as his mentor and counselor throughout the process.
Today, Nugent emphasizes that anyone can achieve their weight loss goals with the right mindset and support.
