Introduction to the Miles for Veterans Challenge
Rolling Strong Wellness, in collaboration with Waypoint Vets, is set to launch the “Miles for Veterans: Waypoint Vets Route 66 Virtual Route Challenge.”
Challenge Goals
This virtual event, covering 2,200 miles of walking/running, aims to honor U.S. military veterans while highlighting the historical significance of Route 66. It also promotes overall health and wellness, particularly within the trucking sector.
The challenge begins on May 22, 2025, and runs until March 1, 2026. Registration is currently open, and there are opportunities for sponsorship.
The Significance of Route 66
Known as the “Main Street of America,” Route 66 has a deep-rooted history connected with both the trucking industry and military service. Established in 1926, this essential highway facilitated commerce and the movement of goods nationwide.
Many veterans transition into trucking careers after their military service; about 18 million U.S. veterans are currently truck drivers, showcasing resilience and dedication while supporting a vital part of the economy.
Inspiration for the Challenge
Motivated by the link between Route 66, trucking, and military veterans, Steve Kane, president of Rolling Strong, proposed this virtual walk/run challenge to promote physical activity and raise funds for Waypoint Vets.
“Route 66 symbolizes freedom and the American spirit,” Kane remarked. “Participation in this challenge honors veterans and strengthens ties to the transportation industry, all while encouraging healthier lifestyles.”
Details of the Virtual Challenge
Participants in the “Miles for Veterans: Waypoint Vets Route 66 Virtual Route Challenge” will experience a journey highlighting key landmarks, celebrating the contributions of veterans while advocating healthy living.
The challenge spans over nine months, allowing participants to track their miles at their own pace and share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #M4V.
Support from the Community
The initiative is also backed by FIT DRIVERS. Founder Bob Perry, known as “The Trucker Trainer,” underscores the importance of health in the trucking industry.
“It’s rewarding to support Waypoint Vets,” said Perry. “The alignment of Miles for Veterans with the trucking community is evident, as 10% of CDL drivers are veterans.”
Join the Movement
These organizations are raising funds to sponsor veterans for Waypoint Vets’ transformative adventures. They invite members of the trucking industry to participate.
By joining this cause, you can honor veterans’ contributions and help them reclaim joy, purpose, and belonging in their lives.
