Major manufacturers are rolling out new articulated dump trucks (ADTs) equipped with a variety of features aimed at enhancing operator convenience and boosting productivity.

Between December 1, 2023, and November 30, 2024, around 2,095 newly financed ADTs were sold, based on data from Fusable’s EDA equipment finance platform. This information is derived from state UCC-1 filings concerning financed construction machinery, with financed units making up 40% to 75% of all sales across different machine types in the U.S.

Here’s the latest on ADTs from prominent brands such as Bell, Caterpillar, Develon, Hyundai, John Deere, Liebherr, Rokbak, and Volvo.

Bell Introduces 4×4 E-Series Models

Bell has expanded its lineup with 10 ADT models, ranging from the 18-metric-ton B20E LGP to the 55-metric-ton B60E, alongside the versatile Versa Truck. Product manager Brad Castle highlighted the benefits of the three new 4×4 models: B30E 4×4, B45E 4×4, and B60E 4×4. According to Castle, these E-series trucks deliver the same productivity levels as their 6×6 equivalents but at a reduced cost. The B45E 4×4, for instance, features advanced suspension for improved comfort and productivity.

Caterpillar Enhances Operator Support with Advanced Tech

Caterpillar is equipping its ADTs with various technologies designed to aid operators, according to Scott Thomas from the company. Features such as Assisted Hoisting Control and Advanced Automatic Traction Control enhance performance, offering automatic adjustments that improve safety. Notably, the ejector models, such as the 730 EJ and 740 EJ, provide significant advantages by allowing material to be spread while dumping, thus saving operational time and costs.

Develon’s Innovative Designs

Develon showcases unique features in its ADTs with models like the DA30-5 and DA45-5, designed for enhanced stability with an innovative turning ring placement. This design allows for independent rotation of the dump bed, improving both stability and operator comfort. Bill Zak, product manager at Develon, emphasizes that this design ensures all wheels maintain ground contact across various terrains, an essential feature for effective operation.

Hyundai’s HA30 and HA45 Models

Hyundai offers two models of ADTs, the HA30 and HA45, featuring Scania engines and designed with best-in-class features for stability and operator comfort. Both models include onboard weighing systems, heated dump bodies, and air-ride seating, enhancing operational efficiency and safety during diverse job site conditions.

John Deere’s Next-Generation P-Tier Trucks

John Deere is refreshing its P-Tier lineup, introducing updated models that provide enhanced features, including relocated rear lighting and an Advanced Vision System with multiple cameras for better visibility. With improvements to fuel efficiency and operational design, Deere aims to streamline the operator experience while maintaining robust performance in its trucks.

Liebherr’s Comprehensive Features

Liebherr’s TA230 model stands out with a robust engine and a host of standard features that prioritize safety and performance. This model includes advanced controls for efficient operation and a full-time 6×6 drive, which contributes to its reliability and effectiveness across varied job sites. Isaac Tucker from Liebherr emphasizes the company’s focus on safety, comfort, and performance during the product development phase.

Rokbak and Volvo’s Upcoming Innovations

Rokbak continues to evolve its ADT line, enhancing features aimed at improving fleet management through user-friendly telematics. Meanwhile, Volvo CE is preparing to release a new generation of ADTs in early 2025 that will boast significant updates. The current models include advanced safety features and captivate with their promise of real-time data through innovative apps like Connected Map.
