Caledon Tackles Illegal Trucking Operations

The Town of Caledon in Ontario has achieved multiple convictions for illegal trucking activities since June 2024, imposing over $330,000 in fines as a result.

This initiative underscores Caledon’s dedication to detecting and rectifying unlawful land usage through proactive enforcement and ensuring trucking operators adhere to relevant bylaws. The town is located in the heart of the trucking sector within the Region of Peel.

Community Safety Focus

Rebecca Carvalho, manager of strategic initiatives and chair of the Illegal Land Use Task Force, stated in a news release, “These convictions deliver a strong message that illegal trucking practices will not be permitted in Caledon. We will persist in taking strong actions against those who flout our regulations and jeopardize our community’s safety.”

In February, Caledon introduced an online map detailing complaints about illegal trucking depots. This interactive tool offers updates on the status of complaints and prosecutions. Currently, the town has pursued legal action in 72 cases, with 74 ongoing investigations.

Ongoing Investigations

The town is actively looking into complaints concerning illegal transportation depots. The Illegal Land Use Task Force remains committed to identifying and addressing unlawful land uses through enforcement actions, policy changes, and public awareness initiatives, as mentioned in the release.
