Jana Jarvis: A Leader in the Trucking World
Jana Jarvis, who became president of the Oregon Trucking Associations in February 2015, first encountered the trucking business early in her career while working for a battery manufacturer. She quickly understood the vital role that trucking plays in the economy and the U.S. supply chain.
A Positive Perspective on Trucking
Jarvis has always viewed the trucking industry positively and holds truck drivers in high regard. Early on, when she began traveling alone, her father encouraged her by saying, “If you need help, let a truck driver help you.” This early impression ultimately paved her path to her role with the Oregon Trucking Associations.

“I’ve always recognized that trucking is essential to our country’s economic growth and opportunity. A significant portion of our goods and products is transported by trucks,” she stated, expressing her enthusiasm for various aspects of her work in the trucking industry.

According to Jarvis, the trucking industry’s significance becomes particularly clear during emergencies and recovery phases. She highlighted the dedication of truck drivers nationally, who have persistently delivered vital supplies throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jarvis encourages women with an interest in trucking to consider careers in the industry, proudly noting the growing number of women involved. “There’s an abundance of opportunities for women here—from driving trucks, working for a trucking company, to managing one, or being part of an association,” she remarked.

“The trucking sector is often seen through a masculine lens, but it is undergoing a transformation,” she explained, emphasizing the importance of informing women about the variety of jobs and opportunities available in trucking.
