Heavy-duty truck equipment managers tasked with maintaining vocational trucks have received a significant upgrade with the integration of Allison Transmission data into the Mack Trucks’ GuardDog Connect platform. This enhancement allows fleet managers quicker access to fault codes and improved support via Mack’s service networks.

Integration of Allison Transmission Data into GuardDog Connect

Beginning in late Q2 2025, GuardDog Connect subscribers operating trucks with Allison Transmissions will start receiving Allison Action Plans directly through the GuardDog Connect system.

“Customers will benefit from receiving our Allison Action Plans via GuardDog Connect services, including OneCall and our back support,” stated Marty Foulks, connected vehicle product manager at Mack Trucks.

For truck shop managers familiar with the Mack interface, the incorporation of Allison transmission data streamlines their operations. “Now, users accustomed to Mack tools can easily view Allison Transmission fault codes,” explained Chris Rounds, global strategic marketing manager at Allison Transmission.

Fault Code Context and Prioritization

In addition to visibility, Allison is also introducing context and prioritization for fault codes. “Users will gain the ability to understand code prioritization,” Rounds noted. “They will also receive insights on how severe codes affect vehicle operation.”

The system will implement a three-tier severity classification—green, yellow, and red—to assist fleet managers in determining which issues need immediate action and which can wait for regular maintenance. “It helps identify critical issues that should be tackled the same day versus those that can be postponed,” he added.

A significant advantage of this integration is the continuity of service without the need for managers to navigate a new interface or process. “They can continue using the familiar services,” Foulks remarked. “This ensures seamless communication.”

Enhanced Uptime and Efficient Service Calls

This integration is expected to offer substantial advantages for a wide array of fleet operations, particularly in heavy vocational applications like garbage trucks and refuse vehicles, where reducing downtime is essential. Access to prioritized real-time transmission data in the same platform as other vehicle systems minimizes the time trucks spend in service bays.

Ultimately, this integration introduces an additional layer of actionable insights to an already powerful telematics system. As Rounds emphasizes, the aim is to “facilitate data-driven decisions” while guiding users to the nearest authorized Allison location that also functions as a Mack dealer, thereby easing service challenges.

For shop managers and service personnel aiming to streamline diagnostics and enhance resolution times, this collaboration between Mack and Allison provides a more effective approach to managing vehicle uptime.
