Shawn Jacobs, the president and CEO of STS Trailer & Truck Equipment based in Syracuse, NY, was inaugurated today as the 49th president of the NTEA, the association representing the work truck industry. He took over the position from the previous president, Frank Livas of Brake & Clutch, Inc. (Salem, Mass.), during a ceremony in Indianapolis at the President’s Breakfast and NTEA Annual Meeting, which coincided with The Work Truck Show 2013, North America’s largest event for work trucks.

“My primary goal over the next year as NTEA president is to inform fellow member companies about the various opportunities and connections that the Association offers,” Jacobs stated.

Jacobs began his career in the work truck industry in the parts department at STS Trailer & Truck Equipment after completing his college education. Before becoming president in 2004, he held numerous roles including office manager, equipment salesperson, new and used sales manager, and general manager.

In his current capacity, he oversees the company’s overall administration and operations, focusing on promoting business growth and shaping its vision. STS employs over 100 people and has offices located in Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, and Syracuse, NY.

Jacobs earned a major in truck marketing from Northwood Institute (Midland, MI) and holds an associate’s degree in business from Central City Business Institute (Syracuse, NY). He has also participated in and led various advisory boards and distributor councils for trailer and truck equipment manufacturers.

He resides in Brewerton, NY, with his wife and children.

The 2013-2014 Board of NTEA will also include Executive Committee Members: First Vice President Mark Woody from Palfinger North America (Niagara Falls, ON, Canada); Second Vice President Jeffrey Messer of Messer Truck Equipment (Westbrook, ME); Third Vice President and Treasurer Matt Wilson from Switch-N-Go, AmeriDeck & Bucks Divisions of Deist Industries, Inc. (Hadley, PA); and Secretary Steve Carey, Executive Director of NTEA.

Alongside the Executive Committee members, the following Distributor Trustees will serve:

  • Todd Davis, vice president of Phenix Enterprises, Inc. (Pomona, CA);
  • Brian Glover, president/owner of Tampa Crane & Body, Inc. (Tampa, FL);
  • Adam Keane, general manager of Allied Body Works, Inc. (Seattle, WA);
  • Bill Kohler, president of Kranz Automotive Body Co. (St. Louis, MO);
  • John Wartenbee, vice president of Northern Truck Equipment Corp. (Sioux Falls, SD);
  • Terry Wieseler, general manager of Truck Equipment, Inc. (Des Moines, IA).

Additionally, the Manufacturer Trustees include:

  • Brett Collins, president of Venco/Venturo Manufacturing, Inc. (Cincinnati, OH);
  • Ross L. Haith, Jr., president of Masterack Division, Leggett & Platt, CVP (Atlanta, GA).

Davis, Kohler, and Haith were newly elected and will all serve three-year terms.
