Fleet Management Symposium at Work Truck Show 2005

The upcoming Work Truck Show 2005, along with the 41st Annual National Truck Equipment Association Convention, will host a Fleet Management Symposium aimed at managers overseeing vocational truck and equipment fleets.

This symposium, lasting a day and a half, is scheduled for February 28 to March 1, 2005. Kelly Walker, the president of Kelly Walker Associates, a fleet management consulting firm based in Dallas, Texas, will facilitate the session titled “Master’s Seminar in Advanced Equipment, Fleet and Shop Management.” The symposium will cover five essential areas: managing the chassis, various upfits, onboard inventory, the vehicle operator/tradesman, and technologies for remote monitoring. Attendees will acquire strategies to unify these components for better fleet and equipment oversight.

The first day will emphasize skills for fleet asset and business management, while Day 2 will be dedicated to skills related to shop labor, fuel, and technology management. Key topics to be discussed include:

  • Maximizing warranties and performance guarantees.
  • Implementing effective negotiation strategies to cut costs by 10% to 30%.
  • Calculating the fully loaded labor rate for technicians and tradespeople in 12 steps.
  • Optimizing fuel management strategies.
  • Utilizing remote GPS tracking and onboard monitoring to manage mobile work crews and fleet resources.

For fleet managers aiming for certification, participation in the symposium is necessary for obtaining advanced certification and a master’s degree in equipment, fleet, and shop management from Walker. This certification program is backed by organizations such as the Rocky Mountain Fleet Management Association, the Association of Equipment Management Professionals, and the National Council of State Fleet Administrators.

Registration for the Fleet Management Symposium includes a free Conference & Trade Show Package, granting access to the exhibit hall, educational sessions, and the Truck Fleet Manager Training Session & Networking Luncheon on March 3. The registration fee is $299 until February 18, 2005, and increases to $399 after that date.

The Work Truck Show 2005 will take place at the Indiana Convention Center & RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana, spanning from March 2 to 4, with the convention and educational activities commencing on March 1. The symposium will be held on February 28, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and will continue on March 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
